Winter is almost here and I’m sure there is one word that comes to mind – layering! Just because it’s freezing out doesn’t mean we have to give up on style. All we need is some creativity and versatile pieces to keep us warm. Here are three tips to help you master the art of layering.

1. Invest in Basic Layering Pieces

Never underestimate the power of basic pieces, like a classic white tee or black turtleneck. These are pieces you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again. The same goes for jeans and trousers you can wear all year long. You can style these pieces in so many different ways – from wearing a turtleneck by itself or styled under your favourite sweatshirt. Of course, you can opt for a colourful layering top to spice things up!

2. Let’s Talk Outerwear

To survive the cold, we need our outwear pieces, jackets, and coats to keep us warm. They’re probably the most expensive pieces in your wardrobe, but they are an investment that will remain in your closet for years to come.

In terms of outerwear trends: We’ve definitely seen a comeback with puffer jackets from companies like North Face, Aritzia to Moncler.

3. Don’t Forget to Accessorize

Dressing for the cold is all about bundling up and adding accessories to your outfit. A great coat can only get you so far, but the right hats, scarves, and mittens can make all the difference for a fashionable and warm look even in the most undesirable weather.

Here are some winter accessories to add some colors and textures to your outfit:

  • Scarves
  • Hats/Beanies
  • Gloves/Mittens
  • Sunglasses
  • Bags
  • For a classy look – layer up in a belted or wrap coat
